Visit Budapest's Orthodox Synagogue, a red-brick Art Nouveau gem from 1913. Admire the Hebrew-crowned facade, then step inside to see the stained glass and ornate decoration.

📖

Full description

The Budapest Orthodox Synagogue was designed by Sándor and Béla Löffler and completed in 1913, with a red-brick facade in the Art Nouveau style topped by Hebrew characters. Inside, reviewers describe an ornate, memorable space rich in stained glass.

A restoration agreement between the Jewish community and the municipality means the building is also set to host public events, and the stage is movable. It is small, so about fifteen minutes is enough.

It closes on Saturdays and has limited weekday hours.

Reviews

Interesting synagogue. The Jewish community made an agreement with the monicipalety. The came out with the restoration money and the synagogue will be used for public events also. The stage is movable into the lower floor creating a large hall.
