Marollen

Explore the Marollen, Brussels' proudly working-class quarter below the Palais de Justice. Hunt through the flea market and antique shops, then ride up for views over the city.

📖

Full description

The Marollen (Marolles) is a traditional working-class neighbourhood on the slope beneath the Palais de Justice, with a distinct local dialect and identity. Rue Haute and Rue Blaes run through its heart, lined with antique dealers, vintage shops and everyday cafés, while the Place du Jeu de Balle hosts a daily flea market.

The mood is unpolished and lived-in, a contrast to the grand centre above. Wall murals and old shopfronts add visual interest, and the lift or steps up toward the Palais de Justice give a good view over the city.
