Halle Gate

4.3 ·

Climb through Halle Gate, the last medieval gate of Brussels. Follow the city's history floor by floor up the stone spiral staircase, then take in the views from the battlements.

📖

Full description

Halle Gate, or Porte de Hal, is a fortified gate from the late 14th century and the only one of Brussels' medieval entrances still standing. Inside, the museum covers the city's history over several floors linked by a white stone spiral staircase, and the battlements open up views over the surrounding neighbourhood.

It looks smaller from outside than it proves to be. Reviewers mention ongoing construction around the building until 2027, which makes finding the main entrance a little awkward but does not stop visitors getting in.

Reviews

From the outside it doesn’t look as big as it is. There is a great deal of construction going on at the moment but it is open. A white stone spiral staircase takes you to each floor. That is quite expensive and each floor has something different on it. I found the black and white movies of Brussels a hundred years ago…
