Grand Place

4.7 ·

Begin your Brussels trip at the Grand Place, the ornate square at the city's historic core. Slowly turn on the cobbles to take in the guild houses, the Gothic Town Hall and the gilded rooflines.

📖

Full description

The Grand Place is the historic heart of Brussels, a large cobbled square enclosed on every side by buildings that trace back to the 14th century. Ornate guild houses with gilded facades stand beside the Gothic Town Hall, and the whole ensemble changes character with the light, from pale morning stone to floodlit gold after dark.

It is free, always open, and most visitors need only around half an hour to take in the facades and the atmosphere. Reviewers consistently describe it as the city's defining sight, busy but still worth lingering over.
