Abbaye de la Cambre

4.7 ·

Slow down at the Abbaye de la Cambre, a 13th-century abbey with gardens that locals treat as a morning retreat. Wander the formal garden paths, sit in the sunlight and take in the rebuilt monastic buildings.

📖

Full description

La Cambre is a former Cistercian abbey, founded in 1201, whose monastic complex was rebuilt around formal gardens and a church. The grounds are open and free, running from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM, which makes them as much a neighbourhood park as a monument.

Reviewers describe a calm, clean place with plenty of open space and good light, best in spring when the cherry blossom and magnolia are in flower. Visitors come to stroll, read, sit on a bench or take a morning walk, and a short visit of around 45 minutes is typical.

Reviews

Calm and clean abbey for a day outing. It has lot of open spaces which get great sunlight on a bright day. This place is more beautiful during spring time with lots cherry blossom flowers and magnolia flowers. There are lots of benches and chairs to sit and relax.
