Full description
Facing Charlottenburg Palace from across the street, the Scharf-Gerstenberg Collection is built almost entirely around Surrealism, with its permanent holdings leaning heavily toward drawings and etchings that probe themes of hopelessness, dislocation, and dreamlike disorientation rather than the movement's more famous large-scale paintings. It's a compact collection — reviewers note it's best combined with a wider Charlottenburg visit rather than treated as a standalone destination — but its high hidden-gem and aesthetic scores suggest it rewards those with a specific interest in the genre.
A 4.4 rating reflects consistent appreciation from a smaller, more niche audience than Berlin's headline museums. The setting itself, a stately historic building, adds a layer of contrast to the unsettling art inside.

Reviews
It’s a cute fairly little museum yet the collection is somewhat limited and it’s recommendable to combine it with a visit to Charlottenburg. On a hot summer day the older part of the museum gets really hot, when the old part of the church is almost too cold. Also had a cute café in the building.
