Designed by architect Ricardo Bofill and opened in 2009, the W Barcelona's curved, sail-like silhouette marks the point where the city's beachfront meets the port, and it's become a skyline landmark visible from much of the waterfront even for those not staying there. Most of the tens of thousands of reviews come from hotel guests praising the rooms and service, but the building's rooftop bar and beachside setting also draw visitors purely for a drink or the view rather than a stay.
