✨

Reasons to go

  • Designed by architect Norman Foster with structural engineer Ove Arup, built for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
  • Uses a steel mast suspended by cables rather than a conventional solid tower structure, built to solve TV and radio signal blockage from the surrounding hills.
  • Its observation deck sits over 500 meters above sea level, higher than Bunkers del Carmel or Tibidabo, with notably shorter queues.

Full description

Completed for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, Torre de Collserola was engineered by Norman Foster and Ove Arup to solve a practical problem, the hills around the city were blocking television and radio signals, resulting in a striking steel mast suspended by cables rather than a conventional solid tower. At over 500 meters above sea level including its hillside perch, its observation deck offers what reviewers describe as one of the highest and often least crowded panoramic views in Barcelona, well above the more visited Bunkers del Carmel or Tibidabo.

Getting there takes a bit more effort, tucked into the Collserola hills, which likely explains the shorter queues noted by visitors. It suits travelers who've already hit the central viewpoints and want a quieter, higher perspective, ideally around sunset.

Reviews

Imposing and mesmerizing telecom tower. A Norman Foster - legendary architect - design, built just before the 1992 Summer Olympics. Very nice views of Barcelona also. A couple of hundred meters from Tibidabo.
