Basílica de Santa Maria del Pi

4.6 (7,377)$ · Budget-friendly

Built between the 14th and 15th centuries in the Catalan Gothic style, Santa Maria del Pi takes its name from a pine tree that once stood where its square now hosts a small artisan market most weekends. Its rose window, over 10 meters wide, is among the largest of its kind and floods the single-nave interior with colored light. Reviewers consistently recommend climbing the bell tower for panoramic views over the Gothic Quarter's rooftops, a less crowded alternative to the cathedral's own tower. Sitting between three interconnected squares full of cafes and street musicians, it makes a natural pause on a walk through the old city rather than a dedicated destination.

What people say

"Absolutely gorgeous. Make the time to go up to the tower - you won't regret it! Unless you have claustrophobia or a severe stamina condition, in which case you might regret it. That being said, there are stops along the way and you don't have to go all the way up. Anyways, this was my favorite view of Barcelona so far by a mile. P.S.: If you see the church cat, say hi to her and tell her that I love her very much. My friend and I decided to call her Rosebud - she's very friendly and loves to cuddle."
