Pull up a chair at Zisis for classic Athenian seafood without the fuss. Order the crispy fried calamari with a Greek salad and a glass of local wine.

📖

Full description

Zisis is a mid-range seafood taverna in central Athens, best known for its fried squid and calamari, which reviewers describe as crispy outside, tender inside and served hot in generous portions. Greek salad and local wine also receive praise.

The atmosphere is straightforward and less flashy than some surrounding restaurants, which suits diners who care more about the plate than the setting. Opening hours run from 12:30 PM, with an earlier close on Mondays and Saturday evenings available until 9:30 PM.

A visit usually takes around an hour, making it easy to fit into a day of sightseeing.

Reviews

Absolutely the best Calamari we ever had, actually had to order a 2nd one, not because the portion was small, it wasn't, it was just that good! The atmosphere was not as flashy as some of the surrounding restaurants, but the freshness and quality of the food overcame. Thank you to Nicolas for the gracious service.
