Escape the city heat on Parnitha, the pine-clad mountain looming just north of Athens. Follow forest trails and ridge paths up toward Karambola, pausing at viewpoints that open across the whole of Attica.
Full description
Parnitha is a pine-covered mountain range and national park on the northern edge of Athens, in West Attica, with its highest peak, Karambola, at around 1,412 metres. The mountain works as a quick escape from the city, offering fresh air, marked walking trails and long views across the Attica basin.
Hiking here ranges from easy nature walks to longer ridge outings, and the plateau near the top gives sweeping valley scenery. Visitors with luck may spot herds of deer, though wildlife is generally modest.
The typical visit runs around four hours.
