National Theatre of Greece

4.7 ·

Settle into the National Theatre of Greece, the country's historic state stage in the heart of Athens. Take in a play, concert or dance-theatre piece beneath the grand neoclassical facade and the auditorium's old-world atmosphere.

📖

Full description

The National Theatre of Greece was founded in 1880 and performs in a neoclassical building in central Athens. Its programme mixes drama, concerts and dance-theatre, while opera is staged elsewhere, at the Kallithea venue.

The building itself draws as much praise from visitors as the productions, and the organisation and staff are repeatedly singled out. A typical performance with arrival and interval fills around two and a half hours.

It suits culture-minded visitors planning an evening at the theatre, ideally with a meal booked nearby beforehand.

Reviews

A beautiful theatre building in the center of Athens. For opera performance you need to go to Kallithea, but here they offer a varied programme that consists of dramas, concerts and dance-theatre plays.
