Escape the city noise at Kaisariani Monastery, a medieval retreat tucked into the pine-covered slopes of Mount Hymettus. Wander the quiet courtyard and small church, then follow the nearby forest paths for a peaceful hour in nature.
Full description
Kaisariani Monastery sits in the Kaisariani neighbourhood on the wooded slopes of Mount Hymettus, a short distance from the centre of Athens. The medieval complex was built over early Christian ruins and the remains of an ancient shrine to Aphrodite, and its small church and surrounding grounds reward a slow wander.
Reviewers describe a peaceful, nature-wrapped setting where city noise fades quickly, with a modest entry fee that is sometimes waived on Sundays. A forest path leads on to a nearby spot about 25 minutes on foot, making this a good fit for a calm morning visit.

Great place to visit. Quite in the nature and so close to the center of Athens. Entree is normally €5 but many times on Sunday's it is for free. About 25 minutes walk from this monastery there is a nice place to test, eat a snack and drink a coffee or do.
