Head up Hymettus, the pine-covered mountain overlooking Athens from the east. Hike or cycle its trails, and stop at open viewpoints to take in the city and neighbouring peaks.
Full description
Hymettus is a mountain range on the eastern edge of Athens, a green oasis of mainly pine and cypress trees set against the dense city. It is used by locals for trail running, hiking, cycling and dog walks, and several vantage points open onto views of the whole Athens basin and neighbouring peaks, with sunsets a draw.
Walking effort is high, so it suits those wanting real exercise rather than a quick viewpoint. About two hours covers a good outing on its slopes and trails.

Reviews
Imittos Mountain is incredibly beautiful; every visit offers a different view. I go trail running in the mountains every week and often meet many fellow trail runners. Let's keep going! (Mountains Without a Trace)
