Hellenic Maritime Museum

Head to Piraeus and step into the Hellenic Maritime Museum, a quiet tribute to Greece's seafaring past. Study handcrafted models of triremes, frigates and tankers alongside nautical paintings and artifacts, all a short walk from the working harbour.

📖

Full description

Located in the port city of Piraeus, the Hellenic Maritime Museum tells the story of Greek seafaring through detailed ship models, paintings and artifacts. The models range from ancient triremes and 18th- and 19th-century frigates to twentieth-century cruisers, freighters and oil tankers, and visitors note the patience and expertise behind their construction.

Machinery models and items of naval history add depth, and reviewers are often surprised by how many Greek-operated ships are represented. It is a modest, easily managed museum that rewards anyone interested in ships, sailing or the navy, and it sits conveniently near the harbour.

Reviews

A "hidden" gem for those imterested in the history of ships, sailing, navy. I loved the numerous models that you know were made with lots of patience & expertise. Hotel, taxi, no one seemed to know it. It's at the marina where it's also fun to see the yachts & enjoy the bistros & surroundings.
