Escape the city in Amsterdam Forest, a huge woodland just south of the centre. Cycle or walk the shaded trails, rent a boat on the water and visit the organic farm along the way.
Full description
Amsterdam Forest, or Amsterdamse Bos, lies in Amstelveen just south of the city and works as a full day-out landscape rather than a single park. Its network of mostly shaded paths suits cycling and walking, and reviewers describe it as easy to get lost in, in the best sense.
Water brings boat rentals and shaded spots to sit, while the organic farm with petting zoo and the tree-top adventure course give families set activities. It is open around the clock, and the typical visit runs about two hours.

Reviews
This is easily my favorite place to bike around. There’s loads of trails (it’s easy to get lost), and you can just enjoy the quiet, scenery. There’s also boat rentals, bonfires (in summer), huge empty fields (well maintained so no ticks), plus the planes fly low overhead.
