Quadraro

Quadraro earned the nickname 'little Moscow' for its strong anti-fascist sympathies, and was the target of a mass Nazi round-up in 1944 in reprisal for partisan resistance activity, a history the neighbourhood still marks with memorials. That working-class, community-oriented identity persists today, and since 2010 the MURo project has turned building facades across the district into a genuinely large open-air street art museum, with dozens of murals by Italian and international artists. It remains largely residential and untouristed, well outside the usual circuits of central Rome. Visitors come specifically for the street art and the neighbourhood's under-the-radar, authentic character rather than any classical ruins.
