"Trattoria Pennestri was perfection. It had been a long time since I felt a restaurant was truly 5/5, but this was it. My only regret is that we went on our last night in Rome; if we had gone earlier, we would have tried to come back again. The ambiance was beautiful, warm, and relaxed. The service was outstanding without ever feeling pretentious. Valentina, our server, was exceptional: professional, kind, thoughtful, and genuinely great at guiding us through the food and wine. Even the young man assisting with water and service had a calm, professional presence that stood out. We asked for local Lazio wines, white and red, and both recommendations were phenomenal. The appetizers were beautiful and delicious, especially the eggplant with olives and roasted tomatoes and the pecorino with anchovies. Then came the pastas: cacio e pepe, amatriciana, gnocchi with sage and pecorino, and tubi with seafood. We loved every single one. The cacio e pepe was so special that we ordered an extra one just to share, knowing we probably would not find anything like it again. This was the kind of meal we came to Italy for. Awesome, personal, and truly memorable."
