Buck and Breck

4.2 (808)$$ · Mid-range

Buck and Breck operates as a genuine speakeasy in Mitte, unmarked and hidden away in a stretch of the city once part of East Berlin, admitting guests through a single door with no sign to announce it. Inside, the focus is on top-tier, secretive cocktail craft, delivered with a sense of theater that reviewers liken to being let in on a well-kept secret. It's built for a small crowd and an intimate evening rather than a big night out. Reservations are recommended given the tiny footprint and steady demand.

What people say

"I visited this bar because it was highly recommended for my taste, and I came all the way there on a cold, rainy night in Berlin. To be fair, the bartender was kind and helpful. He came outside to help me find the entrance and explained that the bar only accepts cash. Unfortunately, the overall experience became very uncomfortable. I was visiting alone and took a few photos of the drinks and space, being careful not to photograph other guests. Before my first drink even arrived, a staff member came over and warned me that photography was not allowed and said I would be asked to leave if I did it again. After that, I felt watched for the rest of the visit. I understand that some venues want to protect guests’ privacy, but the way this was handled made me feel unwelcome rather than respected. The drinks were decent, but not exceptional enough to justify the price. I paid €48 in cash for three cocktails, and I did not find the pricing clear in advance. For me, that combination of cash-only payment, unclear pricing, and an uncomfortable atmosphere made the experience feel poor value overall. Two stars only because the bartender who first helped me was genuinely nice. Otherwise, I would not return."
