Kantstraße & Savignyplatz

Savignyplatz is a quiet, tree-filled square in Charlottenburg surrounded by elegant 19th-century apartment buildings, and together with the shops and restaurants lining nearby Kantstraße, it forms one of former West Berlin's most pleasant areas for an unhurried evening. The area has long attracted writers, publishers, and an intellectual, slightly old-fashioned crowd, with secondhand bookshops nestled under the S-Bahn arches and long-standing bistros and wine bars rather than the trend-driven bars of eastern districts. Kantstraße itself also has a small but well-established Vietnamese and Asian food scene tucked among antique shops and design stores. It's a good contrast to Mitte or Kreuzberg for visitors wanting a calmer, more residential evening out.
