Necci dal 1924

4.2 (4,493)$$ · Mid-range

Necci dal 1924 takes its name from its founding year and has long anchored the Pigneto neighborhood, a part of Rome historically associated with a more bohemian, artistic crowd, and it still operates across breakfast, lunch, and dinner rather than a single service. Regulars keep coming back — one reviewer notes their eighth or ninth visit over three years — for dishes like artichoke fettuccine and Bolognese ragù, though service consistency draws some complaints even from loyal customers. Its notably high culture and local scores reflect that neighborhood-institution status more than polish, while a 4.2 rating over 4,493 reviews suggests a place people love despite occasional service hiccups. It suits a longer, unhurried visit — coffee in the morning, a full meal later — rather than a quick stop.

✨ Reasons to go

  • 1Operating since 1924, it's a longstanding institution in Rome's Pigneto district.
  • 2Reportedly linked to filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini, who frequented the area.
  • 3Has a garden setting that's lit up in the evening for dinner service.

💡 Good to know

  • 1Book ahead for dinner if possible
  • 2go for breakfast or an early lunch for a calmer pace
  • 3be patient with service, which reviewers describe as inconsistent.

What people say

"Great food as always on my 8th or 9th visit in 3 years, but bad service. 😕 The artichoke fettuccine, Bolognese ragù, steak, and Rocher dessert were all exceptionally good and the kitchen is easily 5 stars. 😍 We booked our table 2 months in advance. A male staff member refused to seat us upstairs, claiming it was too busy and that reservations don't guarantee specific tables. However, multiple tables opened up upstairs during our time there. Instead of moving us, he seated new arrivals without reservation at those tables. The food was wonderful, but that specific employee’s attitude and lack of basic hospitality were highly disappointing."
