Unter den Linden

Named for the linden trees planted along its median since the 17th century, Unter den Linden was the ceremonial heart of Prussian and later German imperial Berlin, and it still connects two of the city's most significant landmarks, the Brandenburg Gate at one end and Museum Island at the other. Along the way it passes Humboldt University, the Berlin State Opera, and a string of embassies and historic facades, many rebuilt after wartime damage but following the boulevard's original grand scale.
