Chelsea's King's Road was ground zero for 1960s Swinging London and later punk fashion, and the street still runs the length of the neighbourhood as its main artery of boutiques and cafes. Sloane Square marks its eastern edge, giving its name to the affluent 'Sloane Ranger' archetype long associated with the area, while the Saatchi Gallery and the Chelsea Physic Garden add cultural weight. Rows of white stucco townhouses and quiet garden squares make it one of London's wealthiest and most manicured residential districts. The Thames-side Chelsea Embankment offers a calmer, leafier walk than the shopping streets inland.
