Sant Andreu de Palomar

Like Sarrià and Gràcia, Sant Andreu de Palomar was its own municipality before being folded into Barcelona in the late 19th century, and its old core still centers on Plaça Orfila and Carrer Gran de Sant Andreu, the original market town's main street. It's a solidly working- and middle-class neighborhood with a strong sense of local identity, its own festa major street festival, and traditional shops that have served the same families for generations. Sights are modest — a parish church, an old town hall, a covered market — but the neighborhood offers an unfiltered look at everyday Barcelona life away from any tourist circuit. It's well connected by metro but rarely visited by anyone without a specific reason to be there.
