Monteverde

Monteverde grew up on the slopes behind the Gianicolo hill in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a middle-class residential district, and it remains defined more by everyday life than by tourist sights. Villa Doria Pamphilj, its main draw, is the largest landscaped park in Rome, considerably bigger than Villa Borghese, with shaded avenues, a lake, and wide lawns popular with local joggers and picnicking families rather than tour groups. The neighbourhood's edge along the Gianicolo hill also offers one of Rome's best panoramic views over the city, near the Garibaldi monument. It's a good choice for anyone wanting green space and quiet without leaving the city.
