Horta-Guinardó

Spreading across the hillsides in the northeast of the city, Horta-Guinardó is one of Barcelona's largest and least touristed districts, made up of working- and middle-class neighborhoods with a strong village feel in older pockets like Horta itself. Its standout attraction is the Parc del Laberint d'Horta, the city's oldest surviving garden, with a neoclassical cypress hedge maze that predates Park Güell and draws a fraction of the crowds. The district also borders Park Güell and the Turó de la Rovira hill, whose Civil War-era gun emplacements (the Carmel Bunkers) have become one of the city's best free viewpoints over Barcelona. It rewards visitors who want green space and panoramic views without the queues of the more famous Gaudí sites.
